The property insurance supply chain has faced a series of unparalleled challenges since we were all together in November 2019. We are well used to dealing with competition, with even greater customer expectations, with surge events, with changes in insurer priorities, but no one could have been truly prepared for what BREXIT and COVID-19 created. In a sector where resilience and response are the ordinary, we have been tested in extraordinary ways. But there remain big challenges ahead for our industry and if we are to continue to prosper and grow, we need to build even more resilience into our businesses and demonstrate sustainability – not just in ESG (Environmental, Social and Corporate Governance), but in business performance. Through partnership working and involvement in industry wide initiatives, the BDMA executive is also informed by the Association’s relationship with The Association of British Insurers (ABI) and the Chartered Institute of Loss Adjusters (CILA). With thanks to our conference sponsors and supporters. 03NOTES FROM THE CHAIR NOTES FROM THE CHAIR NOTE ABOUT SHARING ON SOCIAL Keep the photos coming! Each month we're tagged in lots of your photos on LinkedIn, sometimes they're e-learning certificates, sometimes they're photos of you celebrating your BDMA exam wins. Either way, make sure to tag us @TheBDMA (British Damage Management Association), so we can share on our company page and in our monthly newsletter! Hello and welcome to this special conference edition of The Standard magazine. As always, my thanks go to all our members for their continued support, and to our business sponsors. Thank you also to the BDMA team both in Market Harborough, and those who work remotely for the outstanding efforts they put in to run classes, exams, and the day- to-day administration of the association. Let’s begin with news of yet another increase in our membership numbers. Recent figures I have seen show that we enrolled 60 new members across all our membership categories in April 2022. A warm welcome to you all. The finalisation of the review of the BDMA rules and articles of association is now complete and we will send the revised copies out to the membership for consultation. This will be prior to an Extraordinary General Meeting which will be held on Tuesday 28th June @ 5pm at the conference venue and via Teams / Zoom Conference 2022 continues to be our primary focus. Check our website for information on booking your place, submitting your entries into our award categories, and exhibiting at the conference 👉> https:// bdma.org.uk/bdma-conference-2022- the-roadmap-for-sustainable-resilience/ Daily calls and Zoom meetings are the norm for the BDMA conference team. With the running order 99% finalised and published, we hope that our members take the opportunity to book tickets and take part in what is promising to be a great event. Sales of exhibition space have taken off very quickly, a huge thank you to all our members, sponsors and supporters who have made the decision to exhibit. We have many conference sponsors already signed up and companies are still coming forward to book exhibition space and sponsorship packages. The location is ideal for damage management technicians to attend on a day ticket. Please contact any member of the BDMA Executive or email events@bdma.org.uk. for booking information. You will be seeing many more social media posts relating to conference, the event running order, award categories, special events and masterclasses. The masterclasses will include demonstrations of restoring works of art, measuring moisture in different materials, the mysteries of textile restoration and more besides! The classes will run during the day alongside the speaking events. My thanks to those who have volunteered to run these sessions. Our nominated charity for Conference 2022 is Beat, the UK’s Eating Disorder Charity. You are invited to wear your wildest shirt to our conference networking buffet (sponsored by Westone Housing Ltd) at 18:30 on Wednesday 29th June – there will also be a special raffle. Very soon, those of you attending will get access to our conference App available via the App Store and Google Play. The App will enable you to add your own biography, view programme events, see the exhibitor floor plan, exhibitor information and arrange to network with other delegates. Remember to bring your mobile phone charger cable!!!!! Please take time to check out the venue, De Vere East Midlands Conference Centre, Beeston Lane, Nottingham. The theme for this year’s conference, “The Roadmap to Sustainable Resilience” is highly relevant to today’s Insurance and Damage Management sectors – and, indeed, the wider world! There is no doubt that unless action is taken immediately, the effects of climate change will continue to accelerate rapidly. With this in mind, and as one small measure, this is the first edition of The Standard to be issued in entirely digital format. No printed copies have been produced. In alignment with this, the BDMA Conference programme will also be delivered digitally via a Conference App on your smartphone or tablet. The app has many powerful functions including a networking portal, access to speaker and presenter profiles, information on how to donate to the BDMA’s nominated charity, and venue details. Enhance your conference experience by downloading the app when it becomes available. As part of our commitment to give something back to our members, we have sourced an eclectic mix of presenters – this includes presentations from television personalities, life coaches, and industry thought leaders - from insurers, loss adjusters and damage management companies. In trying to connect and engage with our Technician and Practitioner members, on both conference days we will be running six individual masterclasses. These masterclasses will cover carpet and upholstery cleaning and specialist stain removal, fine art and ceramic restoration, the correct use of moisture meters and moisture investigation, furniture restoration and the measurement of building materials. Day tickets for the masterclasses and exhibition entry only can be purchased for only £50 + VAT. This includes a buffet lunch and represents significant value for money! It is also an opportunity for Technicians and Practitioners to network and meet industry peers. I look forward to meeting many old friends at conference and making a few new ones. 05 THE BDMA'S VIEW 29th and 30th June 2022 Adrian Jolly Right: Images from the BDMA's 2019 Conference THE BDMA CONFERENCE 06 BY JEAN DAVENPORT THE DE VERE EAST MIDLANDS CONFERENCE CENTRE The location for the BDMA Conference 2022 - A sought-after event venue in Nottingham. Following a multi-million pounds refurbishment, the De Vere East Midlands Conference Centre offers state-of-the-art meetings and events spaces, banqueting suites, and magnificent, contemporary public spaces. A leading venue in the Midlands for large events including exhibitions and gala dinners, the De Vere East Midlands Conference Centre accommodates up to 1000 guests - and also offers a collection of spaces for smaller meetings and training sessions. Sustainability was at the core of the refurbishment, from water refill stations reducing the need for single-use plastics, to locally sourced food - all helping reduce carbon footprint. These credentials made it the perfect location choice for the BDMA conference aligning with the theme “The Roadmap to Sustainable Resilience”. The De Vere East Midlands Conference Centre, set in 330 acres of the University of Nottingham’s landscaped parkland is just four miles from Nottingham and close to the M1 motorway. Guests can enjoy free access to the state-of-the-art gym and 25m swimming pool at the University of Nottingham's David Ross Sports Village. Other facilities which are available can be booked at a small charge include a climbing wall, squash and badminton courts and wellbeing suite which includes sauna, steam room, arctic ice fountain and ice- cold bucket shower.
